A five-day itinerary on Douglas Lake.

Tucked into the peaceful foothills of East Tennessee and just 15 minutes from charming roadside gems like Bush’s Baked Bean Factory, this cozy lakefront cottage is more than a vacation. It’s the Someday dream you’ve been meaning to book.

Ready to unplug, unwind, and explore? Here’s your five-day itinerary for the ultimate Douglas Lake getaway. (We also put together a packing guide to make sure your #OOTD matches the activities.)

Day 1: Arrival & Lakefront Unwinding

Afternoon:
Check into Someday Cottage and breathe in the fresh lake air. Settle in, explore the space, and claim your favorite reading nook or porch seat.

Evening:
Take a stroll on the community’s walking trail and catch golden hour over Douglas Lake. Cook dinner in the cottage kitchen or grill on the deck while watching the sunset reflect off the water.

To-do:

  • Unpack and pour a welcome drink

  • Sunset walk or relax by the water

  • Stargazing from the deck

Day 2: Lake Life & Poolside Bliss

Morning:
Sleep in, then enjoy coffee on the porch with a lake view. After breakfast, grab your towel and head to the saltwater pool in the community. It’s the perfect way to soak in some sun while admiring the lake.

Afternoon:
Pack a lunch and explore the lakeshore. Try kayaking, boating, or simply lounging by the water. (Local rental options are available nearby if you didn’t bring gear.)

Evening:
Dinner out? Head to the local watering hole in nearby Dandridge, Angelo’s at The Point, for a great view and meal, or venture to nearby Sevierville for a date at Seasons 101. Both quaint cities are about a 20-minute drive.

To-do:

  • Relax at the saltwater pool

  • Lakeside picnic

  • Optional dinner in town

Day 3: A Quirky Local Museum & Game Night

Morning to Afternoon:
Just 15 minutes away in Chestnut Hill, Bush’s Visitor Center & Museum is a surprisingly delightful stop. Tour the museum, learn about the legendary baked bean empire, and don’t skip the café. You can even see how much you weigh in beans on the bean scale!

Evening:
Back at the cottage, wind down with a game or movie night. If the weather’s nice, light the fire and keep the doors or windows open. You’ll love the sound of nature and smell of fresh air while you gather.

To-do:

  • Visit Bush’s Baked Bean Museum & Café

  • Gift shop stop for quirky souvenirs

  • Cozy night in

Day 4: Smoky Mountain Attraction & Takeout

Morning to Late Afternoon:
Feeling adventurous? Take a short drive (about 45 minutes) to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Whether you hike to a waterfall or simply cruise through Cades Cove, it’s a breathtaking change of pace. If the outdoors aren’t your style, head to Dollywood for the day or swing through Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Evening:
Return to Someday Cottage tired but happy. Pick up dinner from Kenny’s Market, kick back, and enjoy the quiet of the lake at night.

To-do:

  • Day trip to the Smokies or attraction

  • Scenic photos & fresh mountain air

  • Relaxed evening back at the cottage

Day 5: One Last Slow Morning & Reflection

Morning:
Savor one final slow morning at the cottage. Take a walk along the trail, dip your toes in the water, and be sure to let us know about your stay!

Late Morning:
Check out with full hearts, already dreaming about coming back Someday.
